- : There is also a port of SAMBA that will allow a Windows workgroup
- : machine (WFW 3.11, Win 95, Win-Nt) to mount drives from the Amiga. I
- : use this to mount my Par Card and render directly from my P166 to my
- : Personal Animation Recorder. You can't mount drives from the Windows
- : machine, but works to transfer files from the Windows machine to the
- : Amiga!

- I just want to thank you for that hint. I'd that samba liing around
- on my harddisk but didn't know what it is good for...ADT just added it
- to my doewnload list some times ago. I had to buy a clone (486/50, 16MB+
- 400 MB) for work stuff some times back and I didn't want to spend more
- money for a CDROM etc. because I had/have a ZIP, a CDROM and a gig drive
- ... but hooked to my Amiga.
- So first I thought to get access to that stuff via NFS but didn't
- find the right SW. Due to that post I tryed that SAMBA I had on my HD.
- Well after playing around 2 hours I have to say that piece is perfect !
- I use my Ami 1gig HD as a File Server Partition for my Win95 PC (including
- long filenames :-), use the CDROM and can also use my ZIP from the
- Windows Desktop ! That's indeed what I need ! The Amiga as a Workgroup Server !
- And yes it works. Nice to Install the Office packet from the Amiga's CDROM
- to the Amiga's HD :-)
- I boot it up with the AmiTCP4.0 Demo in the starttcp script.
- One problem I have is that my DOS-Mount entry for my ZIP doesn't work
- any more (is an Amiga problem) - so I can only read/write Amiga FileSystem ZIPs
- (with long file names) =:-) - and that the smbd quits if the PC resets
- (or the last connection is closed...the nmbd still runs..)
- And some nice effect is that I can access a ShapeShifter partition
- if I use the Mount Mac !! Does there exist a Mac Workgroup server ?
- (And if so, what does it cost!) Buy an Amiga and it's free =;-> !!
-
- Just talking. But I was impressed...
-
- thanx for listening
-
- PS.: sure, another _not_feature_ is that the free partition size on the PC
- is _always_ 2gigs, and that the user name login under AmiTCP does not
- seem to work...
